Six small lifestyle swaps for sustainability

Transforming your lifestyle to become eco-friendlier and more sustainable can be difficult, time-consuming and confusing so here are six small swaps to make in your everyday life.

Toothpaste tabs

Toothpaste tabs are a great swap to become plastic free. It’s estimated that 1.5 billion toothpaste tubes are discarded every year and are difficult to recycle. Single-use plastics are not sustainable and toothpaste tabs reduce plastic consumption whilst being convenient for travel, and they usually come in biodegradable packaging.

Shampoo bars

Shampoo bars are a great alternative to bottled shampoo which often comes in plastic bottles. These bars, however, offer biodegradable and recyclable packaging and remove plastic from your routine entirely. Only 1 in 5 people consistently recycle items from their bathroom and shampoo bars remove the need to remember to recycle, freeing up time and reducing plastic consumption.

Reusable travel cups

Reusable travel cups are a great alternative to single-use cardboard or plastic cups and reduce waste to landfill by a significant amount. There’s a great alternative to plastic such as our own travel cups made from the waste product rice husk. Reusable travel mugs are also economically friendly benefits of using a travel cup as some coffee stores offer discounts of 25p, one cup of coffee a day for the whole year will save you £84!

Use a milkman

Rather than buying milk at your local supermarket use a milkman who will deliver you milk fresh to your door in reusable glass bottles. Not only will you be helping the environment you will be supporting a local business. Find your local dairy and start using glass bottle today!

Refillable bottles

When going on days out or to festivals this summer, take your own refillable bottle to reduce the amount of single use plastic bottles used. You can use this in your everyday routine to replace the need to consume single use plastic by using a travel squash pod.

Natural deodorant

morter and pistle

Natural and eco-friendly deodorant sticks are a great alternative to canned spray deodorant. Not only are you removing chemicals such as parabens and propylene glycol from your routine. Some parabens act as oestrogen disturbing the natural balance of hormones, propylene glycol can cause damage to your central nervous system when used every day for long periods of time.
By switching to an eco-friendly alternative you will use a product with natural products and improved health benefits. Some roll-on deodorants are packaged in biodegradable cardboard making everything 100% sustainable and recyclable!
